Math
The third grade program incorporates the best practices from the research done about young children and math education. Our math curriculum meets the Common Core State Standards. Children are now exposed to a higher level of mathematics vocabulary, engaged in higher level problem solving and powerful thinking strategies. The areas of instruction will include:
*Numbers and Operations in Base 10
*Understanding Multiplication and Division
*Collecting and Analyzing Data
*Working with Time
*Analyzing and Comparing Fractions
*Analyzing Shapes
*Understanding Area and Perimeter
The lessons engage children in both whole group settings and small group settings. We do partner activities and then follow-up with individual work to make sure they understand the lesson. There are games and literature involved with most lessons. Math should not be an intimidating part of school, as it was for many adults. We try our hardest to make math fun and relevant to the children’s lives.
